The AIBC strives to ensure all Institute events are as sustainable as possible. The following actions have been taken to reduce the environmental impact of this conference:
Printing and paper – conference printed pieces use sustainable paper options, including:
- SugarSheet: an FSC certified, fully recyclable paper made from 100% Sugar Cane residue waste.
- Paper that is: FSC® certified, Rainforest Alliance Certified™, and SFI® Certified Sourcing.
These options mean that printed conference material is recyclable in the boxes the AIBC provides at every Institute event.
Lanyards – conference lanyards are evergreen (no event-specific branding) and are collected at the end of each AIBC event to be re-used. The AIBC’s collection of vinyl badge holders has been utilized many times over the years, as they are reused for all events, until broken beyond use. Once this current stock of badge holders is depleted, the AIBC looks forward to embracing a biodegradable option that is now available.
Water stations – bottled water is not provided at conference. Delegates are instead encouraged to refill their own bottles at the water stations provided throughout the conference space.
Tote bags – reusable tote bags made from 100% Natural cotton (processed free of hazardous chemicals) are available should delegates choose to use one.
Venue – the conference venue is a double LEED® Platinum certified facility located near multiple transit access points. From the six-acre living roof and sophisticated black water treatment plant to the facility-wide recycling program and locally-grown products used in the kitchens, the venue is committed to being as environmentally sustainable as possible.
